Our Story

From the hood came a gentleman, uSlova Mumbe, to the city—a city of lights where the lights are never off. All of a sudden, mountains surrounded this gentleman, uSlova: obstacles, challenges, all standing in his way to the top.

Through the experience of meeting people along the journey, sharing water during breaks, seeing others fall, and watching some climb faster than others, the gentleman, uSlova, wasn’t true to himself at first. Stumbling up the mountain, losing shelter and food, he learned life—impilo. The journey to the top was unique for everyone.

He came back up, still standing tall and moving toward the top. Ngokuzimisela, he realized he shared his story with many others on the journey who had similar experiences. After all, ubude abuphangwa. Surrounded by the mountains, we were all F.U.C.T.

Why FUCT ?

The word "FUCT" captures a shared experience of being a UCT student. It’s a blend of humor and truth, reflecting how we navigate the intense challenges, emotions, and highs and lows of university life. From endless assignments and exams to personal growth and the pressures of being surrounded by excellence, we all feel a little "f***ed" sometimes.

The mountains surrounding us—beautiful as they are—almost symbolize how we’re boxed into this unique UCT world. So, "FUCT" becomes an identity: we’re UCT students, and that means we’re FUCT. It’s not just a curse; it’s a badge of resilience, a shared acknowledgment of what it means to be here, survive, and even thrive

Donations to the Afrifund

At Slova, we see and acknowledge the struggles that come with being a student, especially when financial barriers like fee blocks prevent access to education. These challenges, often linked to systemic inequalities tied to race and background, cannot be ignored, and we believe in standing up for those who face them.

We may be an up-and-coming brand, but we believe that taking bold steps today is essential for creating a better tomorrow. That’s why we are committing 10% of our 2025 profits to the SRC AgriFund, an initiative dedicated to helping students with fee blocks register and continue their education. This contribution will be managed with full transparency, overseen by our bookkeeper and the SRC Treasurer, to ensure it truly makes a difference.

This is not just a donation—it’s a risk we are willing to take because we believe in the futures of our generation. Education is a right, and no one should be left behind due to financial constraints. We stand for inclusivity, empowerment, and hope for a brighter, more equitable future.
